Student’s Field Study for GEP 12 Students
Talking about Cambodian’s most tragic history, we couldn’t think of anything else beside the Khmer Rouge Regime. On February 27th, 2023, Aii Language Center Chroy Chongva Campus conducted a field study for our GEP 12 students to dig into their own country’s darkest period of the history. Along the trip, the students got to understand how the Pol Pot started and why they created this S-21 prison, as well as the other prisons across the country. One of the students, Sovanry Phang, mentioned that “The guide had detailed us that around 20,000 people were brutally killed and only 12 made it out alive. Having to be in a place where so many victims were tortured and murdered made me feel uneasy. It was a mixed feeling of pity, distressed and sorrow. He showed us around all the buildings and it was very tense for me, especially the last building. It was filled with small rooms to hold prisoners captive, rooms with barely any space to breathe. Words could never explain how sorry I feel for them. This trip made me realized how important Khmer’s history is and that our ancestors deserve nothing, but respect.”
The tour to the museum is not only a trip down history but it also opened the eyes of our students to the injustice brought about by the Khmer Rouge to the citizens of this country. A piece of history that is never to be repeated ever again.
